Hi,
My mother-in-law gave me four of the Restaurant Series by Utagawa Kunisada and Hiroshige. The prints look to be in great condition. The edges of the prints are smooth and look like they have been cut for a cleaner edge. While I have been facinated with prints for a few years I'm new to actually owning any. The only time I've seen any prints not framed before was on Antique Roadshow. The commentator on the show spoke about the holes in the edges and how they were held together with string. Since the ones I have are clean and straight, does that mean they aren't real? If they are real, but simply cut for a cleaner edge, does that lower the value as well?

I'm planning on taking them to a professor of Japanese studies at a local university but I'm not sure I'll get any good answers there so I thought I would drop a line here as well.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Red Anjin
