Just a brief note:

The Japanese-English dictionary I mentioned earlier was in fact printed in 1902, not 1892 as I erroneously stated. (The title page has very small print.)

However,I believe this dictionary gives a rather good representation of the Japanese language in the Meiji era, and therefore it may be of interest that the only translation offered by Mr Wadagaki for 'hime' is 'daughter of a nobleman'.
