Yes, I think that's it - one of my JapaneseEnglish dictionaries (one that
uses roman characters for the Japanese entries) gives "princess" for "hime".
So I would make the title something like "Mirror of noble women of all times".
Blasted visual/character puns! You almost have to transliterate the
characters into roman letters, and then look *that* up in a
JapaneseEnglish dictionary, rather than trying to use a regular Japanse
dictionary like Nelson.
Just to add to my confusion, I had misread the second character as Nelson
1185, not 1167! (I have a hard time using Nelson's stroke index, for some
reason - perhaps because it's printed, not hand-written like Self/Hirose.)
Oddly enough (as you perhaps already discovered), Nelson doesn't give "hi" as
a reading for 1140 - thereby completing my confusion! Sigh, Nelson's so
voluminous one is tempted to rely solely on it; this is a useful lesson for
the future - I will certainly pull Koop off the shelf next time too!
Thanks for the help!
