I believe both Richard Lane and Jan van Doesburg rely on Ishii Kendô, directly or indirectly, for their information on gyôji seals. As far as I can tell, Richard (Dick) Illing has correctly rendered what Ishii Kendô wrote about this particular seal and, unless you have better sources, I don't think we have any reason to doubt that this seal was indeed used in Bunka 9 (1812).
