I was leafing through an illustrated medical history book and found a woodblock print of the nine stages of fetal development, "From Conception to Delivery," a triptych of nine ladies with cut-away stomachs, corresponding to seasons of the year. The print was by Sonokichi Hasegawa, c.1890 -- though I can't find any references to this artist in libraries or online. Can anyone help me with more information?
Also, are images of pregnant ladies common in ukiyo-e? The print looked like an informational guide for mothers-to-be, but also like a bijin genre scene illustrating the aftermath of a shunga print.
