Unlike Mr. Fiorillo, I have no reluctance in recommending Richard Illing's The Art of Japanese Prints because I think it is the most readable of the introductory books, and is better illustrated. It also covers prints after the Edo period. However, I do think Mr. Lane's books may serve better for those persons who are more interested in a scholarly text or in researching an Edo period print they own or are considering buying. It depends on what you are looking for in such a book.
